The Proposal

Mike

Catherine

As me & Catherine reached our 9th month of dating, I started thinking that maybe it was time to propose as December would be the best time for her to get married. The December break between quarters is the longest. I thought I better do something about this. I started ring shopping. A couple days before the mid-month payday in July, I found the ring I wanted … just a bit out of my price range. I decided it was worth it to let a couple creditors wait a little longer & spend the extra money. Once the decision to buy the ring was made, I realized I needed to figure out how to ask her! I found a web site that translated "will you marry me" in Swahili. So, I got paid, went to the jeweler & bought the ring, and then memorized this phrase on the way to her place: "Naomba mkono wako wa ndoa" Please note that after work, I usually go to her place, walk up her steps, knock on her door, & wait for her to answer the door. This time, I was going to get on one knee, hold the ring box open in one hand, & ask her that question in Swahili. From day one of dating, Mike and I knew we were going to get married. So I knew a proposal would be coming some time :) I just didn't think it would be this year. I was thinking maybe next year January then a wedding in summer 2010. A week before Mike proposed, he asked me what my ring size was. I didn't know, so I told him I would find out. Even at this time, I didn't think he would propose soon, I thought maybe a September proposal-on our one year dating anniversary? He really caught me off guard when he proposed on July 15th-I hadn't even given him my ring size yet-I had not gone for sizing even!

In the evening after work Mike usually comes to my place, knocks on the door and I open it. This time when he knocked on the door, I thought it was the usual, so I went to open it, and there he was on one knee, saying in Swahili words to the tune of "naomba mkono wako wa ndoa." I was totally caught off guard and thought he was joking-he likes to joke A LOT . So my response was "you're crazy, you're crazy!" Then he asked me, are you gonna answer my question or what? Still in disbelief, I asked again, 'are you serious babe?' Then he said, look at the ring, I'm serious. Sure enough, he did have a beautiful ring (that was a perfect fit by the way :) So with tears in my eyes I said YES! Of course YES!
Thanks for visiting! :)
